Members of the minority in Parliament staged a dramatic walkout on Thursday, July 24, just moments before Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson was set to deliver the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.
The protest was in response to the violence that erupted during the recent parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency—a development the Minority described as an attack on Ghana’s democratic integrity.
Minority Chief Whip and Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, said the caucus could not, in good conscience, lend legitimacy to the budget proceedings while such acts of electoral violence went unaddressed.

As the minority MPs exited the chamber, members of the majority caucus jeered and chanted “away, away, away,” adding to the tension in Parliament.
In the wake of the boycott, the minority has announced plans to petition key national stakeholders, including President John Dramani Mahama, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), and leading civil society organisations, calling for swift action and electoral reforms.
