The minority in Parliament has called for the immediate summoning of the National Security Coordinator following a reported raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to reports, on Tuesday afternoon, a group of individuals, some dressed in military and police uniforms, allegedly stormed Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence while he was out of the country.
Raising concerns in Parliament, First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu condemned the incident, describing it as an attack on Ghana’s democratic principles.

“Mr. Speaker, Ghana has been noted for the democracy that we have been enjoying, and yesterday, the former Minister responsible for Finance, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s house was raided by National Security operatives allegedly,” he stated.
Iddrisu pointed out that Ofori-Atta had officially notified the Chief of Staff about his absence from the country and had received approval to travel.
He questioned why such a raid would take place despite this prior notice.
“Mr. Speaker, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta has officially written to the Chief of Staff that he will not be in the country, and he was given that opportunity, and he left. It is not acceptable,” he said.
He also cited a similar incident involving former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, who was allegedly pursued by security operatives while driving to Parliament.
“Two weeks ago, the former Defence Minister, Nitiwul, was stopped, and his car was chased to Parliament to be seized. Mr. Speaker, this is not the democracy that we are all enjoying, and for former ministers’ houses to be raided, I think the National Security Minister needs to come around and explain,” he asserted.
The minority is now demanding accountability from the national security leadership, urging a detailed explanation of these incidents and seeking measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
