Man Jailed for Stealing Laptop at Labour Ministry

A 36-year-old unemployed man, Foster Nyarko, has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing a laptop from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment while pretending to seek a cleaning job.

Nyarko pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah.

He received a one-year sentence for unlawful entry and two years for theft, to run concurrently.

The prosecution revealed that Nyarko had previously been jailed for stealing a mobile phone at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice while job hunting.

According to the complainant, a lawyer at the Labour Ministry, Nyarko visited the premises on December 4, 2024, under the pretence of job-seeking but instead entered an unoccupied office and stole an HP laptop worth GHC24,745.

He concealed the device in his backpack and fled the scene.

Following investigations, he was arrested and admitted to selling the stolen laptop in Takoradi.
