Mahama Orders Appointees to Forfeit Four Months’ Salary for Missing Asset Declaration Deadline

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered that all political appointees who failed to declare their assets by the initial March 31, 2025, deadline will forfeit four months’ salary as punishment.

The directive includes a three-month salary forfeiture for missing the deadline, plus an additional one-month mandatory donation to the Mahama Cares Trust Fund, which all appointees are expected to contribute to.

“For all those who were appointed or nominated before 31st March 2025 and failed to meet the deadline, you are forfeiting three months of salary to be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund named after me, Mahama Cares,” the President announced.
“In addition to one month’s salary that I have asked all appointees to donate… you are paying four months’ salary in total.”

The penalty follows an update from the auditor general, who reported that some appointees had failed to comply with Mahama’s February 18 directive to declare their assets.

Mahama stressed that this sanction is part of broader accountability reforms under his 120-day Social Contract, aimed at restoring integrity and trust in public office.

He also reaffirmed a May 7 final deadline, warning that any appointee who still fails to declare assets by then will be automatically dismissed.
