Lead Beyond Party Interest – Rachel Appoh to A-Plus
Former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Honourable Rachel Appoh, has issued a stern warning to Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, urging him to prioritise equitable development as the newly elected MP for Gomoa Central.
Speaking at an election victory dinner, Honourable Appoh emphasised that A-Plus’s independent status demands leadership beyond party allegiances.
“As an independent candidate who won with such a margin, I expect him to use the Common Fund across the constituency,” she stated firmly.
Madam Appoh, the first female MP for Gomoa Central, admitted her loyalty to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prevented her from supporting A-Plus during the elections.
“NDC made me; I was a student leader groomed by the party, and the NDC supported me in my first election. I would forever be grateful and loyal to the NDC,” she explained.
Despite their differing affiliations, the former gender minister pledged her full support to A-Plus in his role as MP, offering her expertise and resources to benefit the constituency.
“I will support him in everything he does with my experience, energy, and resources,” she assured.
In response, A-Plus acknowledged Appoh’s vigorous campaigning for the NDC candidate, which he said posed one of his toughest challenges.
“I expected Honourable Appoh to be lenient with me due to our common place of work, but that was not to be,” A-Plus noted.
He also pledged to serve the people of Gomoa Central without a party base.
