The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has paid a working visit to the Lands Commission to engage with its leadership on key reforms and challenges affecting land administration in Ghana.
The visit, aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Ministry and the Commission, focused on improving transparency, enhancing operational efficiency, and modernizing the land management system.
A central topic of discussion was the digitalization of land mapping. Minister Buah highlighted the urgent need for a $165 million investment to digitize Ghana’s land records.

He noted that the current manual system is outdated and prone to inefficiencies and corruption. A digital system, he stressed, would not only streamline operations but also significantly boost government revenue.
“We need to move away from the chaos of manual systems. A digital mapping project is a game-changer,” the minister stated.
Other issues raised included land encroachment, inadequate office space, and the need to expand facilities to accommodate the Commission’s growing operations. The minister acknowledged the logistical challenges but urged management to begin addressing issues within their control.
“We will pursue this together, but even as we do that, there are many things within your control that you can begin to address now to help us achieve our collective goals,” he emphasized.
Minister Buah also stressed the importance of improving transparency and efficiency within the Commission.
He called for a renewed focus on strengthening the core functions of the institution and implementing reforms that inspire public confidence and support investor activity.
His visit underscores the government’s commitment to building a land administration system that is secure, transparent, and responsive to the needs of both citizens and investors.
The proposed reforms are expected to pave the way for a more modern, accountable, and effective land sector.
