In a significant leadership reshuffle at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), President John Mahama has appointed Kwesi Afreh Biney as the new Director-General.
Adam Sulley has also been named as the Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations and Benefits.
These appointments follow the revocation of Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo’s position as Director-General of SSNIT.

According to Citi News, the contracts of three deputy director generals have also been terminated, marking a major restructuring within the institution.
- Kwame Adu-Darkwa—Deputy Director-General, Finance and Administration
- Juliana Kpedekpo—Deputy Director-General, Operations and Benefits
- Nana Serwah Bonsu Amoako—Deputy Director-General, Investment and Development
This latest shake-up at SSNIT follows a series of leadership changes in recent years. In April 2024, then-President Nana Akufo-Addo removed Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang as Director-General and appointed Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo in his place.
Osafo-Maafo, the son of former presidential advisor Yaw Osafo-Maafo, assumed office during a period of transition at SSNIT, marked by a wave of resignations, including that of then-Deputy Director-General for Finance and Administration, Michael Addo.
His appointment also led to the reassignment of Pearl Nana Ama Darko, who moved from SSNIT to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) as Commissioner for Support Services.
Juliana Kpedekpo, who had replaced Darko at SSNIT, is now among the officials whose contracts have been revoked in this latest restructuring.
With these new appointments, President Mahama is expected to drive fresh reforms within SSNIT, ensuring the institution’s leadership aligns with his administration’s vision for social security and pension management in Ghana.
