Kofi Tonto Calls for Immediate Resignation of Akufo-Addo-Appointed CEOs

Kofi Tonto, a member of the communications team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for the immediate resignation of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) appointed under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Tonto’s remarks, made in a Facebook post on February 6, are centred around the need for individuals who align with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to assume leadership roles in state institutions.

“You cannot campaign against the vision and ideas of Mahama and expect to be maintained as a CEO,” Tonto stated in his post. “Step down for those who believe in his ideas and vision. It’s that simple!”

Tonto’s call comes amid ongoing tensions at SIC Insurance PLC, where the outgoing Managing Director (MD), Hollistar Duah-Yentumi, has caused a stir by filing an injunction against the company’s leadership transition.

Duah-Yentumi has reportedly locked her office and withheld the keys, preventing her successor, James Agyenim-Boateng, from officially assuming the MD role.

Agyenim-Boateng spoke about the incident during an appearance on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on February 5.

He revealed that during his official visit to SIC’s headquarters to meet with the management team, Duah-Yentumi had refused to attend the meeting.

Furthermore, she had failed to hand over crucial documents, including her handover notes, raising concerns about the smooth running of the company.

“It has become apparent that the real difficulty regarding why I have not been able to access the office is because my predecessor has actually locked up the office and bolted with the keys. It is strange,” Agyenim-Boateng said.

The situation at SIC Insurance has heightened concerns regarding the transition of leadership in state-owned enterprises and has sparked calls for a more orderly process.

The inability of Agyenim-Boateng to take up his role due to these ongoing issues has led to increased scrutiny over how leadership changes are being managed in state institutions under the current administration.

With calls for a smooth transition echoing across political and business circles, the tension at SIC Insurance serves as a reminder of the challenges that can arise when leadership transitions are not handled effectively.
