Authorities investigating the tragic death of Joana Deladem Yabani at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have made significant progress, recovering her missing laptop and mobile phone—potentially vital evidence in the ongoing case.
According to a statement from the university’s Office of the Registrar, the electronic devices were discovered hidden behind the Flint Hostel, where Joana was last seen. The breakthrough was made possible through the analysis of security camera footage, which helped investigators trace the movements surrounding her disappearance.
University security services and the Ghana Police Service collaborated closely to locate the items, which are now in the hands of forensic experts for further examination.

Authorities believe the retrieved devices could provide crucial insights into Joana’s final moments, as well as possible communication that might aid in the prosecution process.
Meanwhile, the primary suspect in the case, 21-year-old final-year student Daniel Tuffuor, has been remanded into police custody in connection with Joana’s death.
He was arraigned before the Prempeh District Court, where prosecutors successfully argued for his continued detention to allow for further investigations. The court has set March 17, 2025, as the next hearing date.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the university community, with students and faculty calling for enhanced security measures on campus.
The university administration has assured the public that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
As investigations continue, authorities are urging students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could assist in ensuring campus safety.
