John Dumelo’s Father Is Dead
The Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has announced the death of his father, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr, at the age of 75.
In an emotional Facebook post, Dumelo shared the heartbreaking news and reflected on their final moments together.
Dumelo recounted that just hours before his father’s passing, they had an in-depth conversation about life, politics, farming, and business. “At age 75, you lived your life well. Yesterday you called me several times to ask me to come see you. We sat on the bed and spoke at length about politics, life, farming, and business, and of course we gossiped,” Dumelo wrote, recalling their last time together.
The MP-elect revealed that during their conversation, his father offered words of advice as Dumelo prepares for his upcoming swearing-in ceremony. “We spoke about my swearing-in in 3 days’ time, and you told me specifically to serve diligently in government,” Dumelo shared, emphasising the importance of his father’s counsel.
Tragically, shortly after leaving his father’s home, Dumelo received distressing news. “Ten minutes after I left your house, I was called that you were not being responsive. I came back; we rushed you to the hospital, and you were gone,” he said, expressing his shock and sorrow.
In his heartfelt tribute, Dumelo expressed profound gratitude to his father for his steadfast support and guidance throughout his life. “Thanks for being my father, thanks for being my best friend, thanks for being my number 1 cheerleader, and thanks for everything you did for me,” he wrote.
The actor and farmer also offered a poignant farewell: “Say hi to Mum for us all… We will miss you. Rest in perfect peace, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr.”
Dumelo’s loss comes at a significant time in his political journey. Recently elected as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo defeated incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a margin of 2,200 votes. Dumelo garnered 34,800 votes, while Alhassan received 32,600.
