IGP Vows to Arrest Killers Behind Asawase Shootings

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has vowed to bring to justice the perpetrators behind two fatal shooting incidents that have rocked Asawase in the Ashanti Region within a week.

Leading a high-powered delegation of senior officers and investigators on a fact-finding mission to the troubled area, the IGP visited both crime scenes and interacted with local police officials and residents.

The latest victim, 60-year-old Mohammed Madi Suleman, was gunned down by unknown assailants on a motorbike on Friday, July 25, as he returned to his vehicle from a local eatery. His death has sent shockwaves through Asawase, already reeling from the earlier shooting of a local chief under eerily similar circumstances.

“These incidents are unacceptable. We will leave no stone unturned in tracking down and arresting those behind these heinous acts,” the IGP firmly stated during his visit.

The spate of targeted killings has sparked public outcry and growing fears over security in the municipality. The IGP’s presence is seen as an attempt to restore public confidence and intensify police efforts.

Director General of Police Operations, DCOP Vance Gariba, who accompanied the IGP, assured the public that investigations were progressing steadily and that arrests would soon follow.

DCOP Gariba also reinforced a directive from the Ashanti Regional Security Council banning the movement of motorbikes after 7:00 p.m., a measure introduced in response to the modus operandi of the gunmen.

Relatives of the deceased, still in shock, have called for swift justice. Mohammed Madi Suleman’s body was transported to Accra for burial after Islamic rites were performed.

The Ghana Police Service is urging residents with any information to come forward as they intensify patrols and intelligence gathering in the area.
