I Will Not Allow Any DCE To Disrespect Any MP – Ahmed Ibrahim

The Minister-Designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has sent a strong message to District Chief Executives (DCEs), cautioning them against any form of disrespect or sabotage toward Members of Parliament (MPs).

During his vetting by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Ahmed Ibrahim stressed the need for harmonious collaboration between DCEs and MPs to ensure the efficient functioning of Ghana’s local governance system.

The Member of Parliament for Banda and former parliamentary whip outlined his commitment to fostering mutual respect and cooperation between the two groups.

He emphasised that effective partnerships at the local level are essential for district development and governance.

“When given the nod, having been a whip in Parliament for 12 years, I will not allow any DCE to disrespect any Member of Parliament,” Ahmed Ibrahim stated firmly. “In the same way, I will also make sure there is a common platform for any DCE and MPs to have frequent discussions so we can understand our job descriptions.”

Ahmed Ibrahim highlighted the importance of clear communication and defined roles to prevent misunderstandings and to build a collaborative spirit. He assured the committee of his ability to mediate between MPs and DCEs, drawing on his extensive parliamentary experience.

“MPs and DCEs must work hand in hand, putting the development needs of their districts above personal or political differences,” he said.
