I Am Scared He Might Beat Someone At Cabinet Meeting- Atta Akyea On Kennedy Agyapong’s Temper
Former Minister for Works and Housing and ex-Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has openly expressed deep concerns about the temperament of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, warning that his character poses a serious risk to effective governance if elected president.
Speaking in an interview on UTV’s AdekyeNsroma Morning Show on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Atta Akyea said his fears are not rooted in personal dislike but in what he described as Agyapong’s inability to manage conflict calmly and discreetly.
“I sincerely do not have issues with Kennedy Agyapong, but I am scared of his temperament,” he stated. “Leadership comes with several qualities, and such a man with temperament issues might beat someone at a cabinet meeting.”

According to Atta Akyea, he knows the Assin Central MP extremely well, stressing that his assessment is based on long-standing personal and political interactions.
“I know him like my skin,” he said, using a hand gesture to emphasise his point. “When issues come up in Parliament or cabinet, he will fight people.”
The former Abuakwa South MP argued that Kennedy Agyapong lacks the capacity to resolve disputes quietly and diplomatically, a key attribute required of a president.
“He does not know how to resolve things in secret rooms; it’s always in the public,” he stressed, adding that there is little that can restrain Agyapong’s temper once conflicts arise.
Atta Akyea also criticised comments allegedly made by the NPP aspirant suggesting that the Electoral Commission (EC) intends to rig the upcoming presidential election in favour of the New Patriotic Party.
“Yesterday, I overheard him say the EC wants to rig the upcoming presidential election for the NPP. Can you imagine this? Something that has not even started yet,” he remarked.
He dismissed the allegation, insisting that no one within the party intends to manipulate the electoral process for Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia or any other candidate.
“Nobody in the party has the intention to rig the election because each candidate has polling agents at every polling centre,” he said.
Emphasising the qualities required of a head of state, Atta Akyea noted that emotional stability is non-negotiable.
“The temperament of a president is someone who has shock absorbers, not someone who thinks he has a problem with someone and, at the least opportunity, wants to start a fight,” he explained.
In a striking revelation, Atta Akyea disclosed that Kennedy Agyapong is his classmate and that he could have supported his presidential ambition for personal political gain.
“He is my own classmate; I could have campaigned for him so that in case he wins elections for the NPP, I could get some Chief of Staff position,” he said. “But someone who wishes to insult others simply because he feels offended – how can such a person lead the party?”
He further questioned the suitability of a leader who, in his view, uses abusive language without restraint.
“A person with caustic language and insulting behaviour without shame who wants to rule the country?” he asked.
Atta Akyea suggested that Kennedy Agyapong’s strengths may be better channelled into expanding his business interests rather than pursuing the presidency, arguing that leadership requires a combination of competence, temperament, intellectual depth, and vision.
“Combining competence, temperament, intellectual prowess, and vision, I beg to differ; Bawumia is far gone,” he asserted.
When asked whether Kennedy Agyapong’s temperament could still be managed, Atta Akyea was unequivocal.
“How do you do it at this level of his age?” he asked. “Even when you try to speak with him, he sees it as offensive.”
