Isaac Adongo, Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, has clarified that he is not an economist, despite being appointed to the governing board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
His comments follow his recent appointment by President John Mahama, in consultation with the Council of State. While his appointment letter described him as an economist, Adongo stated in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show that this was a misrepresentation.
“I am not an economist. I have never claimed to be one, and I believe it was an oversight to refer to me as such,” he asserted.

He explained that his professional expertise lies in accounting, highlighting that he has been a chartered accountant since 2009.
“My background is in accounting, and I have never described myself as an economist in any official document,” Adongo stated.
The MP further clarified that his CV, which he submitted for the appointment process, did not list him as an economist.
“I was simply asked to provide my CV, which I did, and there is no mention of me being an economist in it,” he emphasised.
Despite this clarification, Adongo’s appointment is expected to contribute to financial oversight and policy improvements at the BoG. Observers are eager to see how his accounting expertise will shape the institution’s direction moving forward.
