“I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market”- Akufo Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his deepest sympathies to the traders who lost their goods in the devastating fire that broke out at the Kantamanto market in Greater Accra on January 2, 2025.

The fire, which erupted in the early hours of the morning, destroyed a large number of stalls and shops, leaving traders in distress and uncertainty. Known for its vibrant trade and variety of goods, Kantamanto market was left in ruins as the flames quickly consumed the area.

During his final State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2025, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the magnitude of the disaster, recognising the severe impact on the livelihoods of the affected traders.

He expressed his sorrow for the devastating loss and pledged that the government would provide support to help the traders recover and rebuild their businesses.

“I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected, and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hard-working traders who have lost their goods and investments,” the President said.

He also urged Ghanaians to come together in solidarity with the affected traders, emphasising the importance of community support in times of crisis. “In this moment of tragedy, we must stand together and help our fellow citizens rebuild their lives,” he added.

The government has vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire, with plans to implement preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.

The President assured the public that ensuring the safety and well-being of markets across the country would remain a priority.
