HOT AUDIO: Sam George Terminates 100 Ghana Post Employees Over Irregular Recruitment

Minister for Communications, Sam George, has ordered the dismissal of nearly 100 staff of Ghana Post Limited, citing irregular recruitment processes.

The affected employees were hired after the December 7, 2024, elections, a period the minister says was marred by procedural lapses and a lack of due process.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Tuesday, March 25, Sam George emphasized his commitment to cleaning up the ministry and its agencies, ensuring that only legally recruited and qualified personnel remain on staff.

“If you take over a ministry with over 3,000 staff and realize that 600 were recruited after December 7 without proper procedures, you cannot expect me to inherit such a mess,” he stated.

The Ningo-Prampram legislator stressed that his focus is to streamline operations and improve efficiency within state institutions under his ministry. “Today, I have authorized the termination of nearly 100 appointments at Ghana Post that were done post-election. We are rationalizing staff to ensure the ministry operates effectively.”

This move is part of a broader government effort to review and reverse questionable post-election appointments across the public sector. Officials argue that many of these recruitments were rushed through without due diligence, placing undue financial strain on government institutions.

While the government insists the dismissals are necessary, affected employees and labor unions are raising concerns about unemployment and the impact on livelihoods. Some groups have called for a transparent review process, arguing that some qualified individuals may have been unfairly affected.

However, Sam George has reiterated that only recruitments that did not follow the right procedures are being revoked, assuring that those with legitimate appointments have nothing to fear.
