A tragic ambush by unknown gunmen on a bus travelling from Bolgatanga to Bawku on Monday, January 6, 2025, has left one passenger dead and several others injured.
The bus, which was under security escort, came under heavy fire from the attackers. Nuaima Awudu, a young trader returning to Bawku after a business trip, was killed in the attack.
The injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.
This violent incident occurred just a day after another resident was killed while attempting to relocate within the town. These back-to-back attacks have shattered the uneasy calm that had prevailed in the area in recent weeks.
The recurring violence in Bawku has heightened fears among residents, many of whom remain confined to their communities to avoid becoming targets. Travel between areas has become increasingly perilous.
Despite the imposition of a dawn-to-dusk curfew in November 2024 aimed at curbing unrest, the security situation remains precarious. No arrests or updates regarding the perpetrators have been made public so far.
