In his acceptance speech, Brigadier General Ashong Annan emphasised his dedication to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
He commended Brigadier General Ayorongo for his leadership and thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve in this critical role.
“We have a critical task; now more than ever, Ghana must mobilise domestic revenue for national development, and you and I stand at the heart of this agenda,” Brigadier General Ashong Annan stated.
He acknowledged the economic challenges facing the country, stressing the need for innovation and dedication in achieving revenue targets.
“As a country, we do not have the benefit of some of the international fund resources that should be available to us. This means we must look within to drive our development,” he noted.
The new commissioner highlighted the importance of teamwork and professionalism in transforming the GRA Customs Division into a globally respected organisation.
He expressed readiness to work with the Minister for Finance, Dr Atto Baah Forson, and the Commissioner-General to ensure that the division meets and exceeds its revenue targets.
“With teamwork, innovation, and unwavering commitment, we will transform this authority into a globally respected organisation,” Brigadier General Ashong Annan assured.
The ceremony concluded with a resounding commitment from customs officials to support the new commissioner’s vision for a more efficient and effective GRA Customs Division.
