Govt to Launch One Million Coders Programme on April 16 April 10, 2025 Govt to Launch One Million Coders Programme on April 16 The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Mr Samuel Nartey George, has announced that the Ministry will launch the One Million Coders programme, with a pilot covering Greater Accra, Ashanti, Bono, and the Upper East regions on April 16, 2025. The One Million Coders programme aims to train one million young Ghanaians in digital skills, empowering them to excel in the rapidly growing business process outsourcing and knowledge process outsourcing sectors. The Minister, who disclosed this during a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, noted that over 500 participants from Accra, Bolgatanga, Sunyani, and Kumasi are expected to attend the launch event. The programme is designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring a balanced 50-50 gender split. “We will leverage our district assemblies and community information centres in subsequent implementation phases to ensure that the programme reaches every corner of Ghana, not just the urban centres,” he added. According to the Minister, there are currently six courses available in three disciplines. Interested citizens can register for the pilot programme by visiting the active website at www.onemillioncoders.gov.gh and filling out the application form. “There will be a review of the applications, and if shortlisted, applicants will receive a notification,” he added. The Minister stated that the Ministry has made intensive efforts to mobilize partners and secure the resources needed to implement the programme and deliver results at scale through strategic diplomacy and public-private partnerships. Mr. Nartey George also mentioned that a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the MTN Group in Barcelona, alongside several other agreements with both local Ghanaian and international partners, which are currently being finalized. “These initiatives are designed to support the implementation of the One Million Coders programme, all aligned with our commitment to positioning Ghana as Africa’s premier digital talent hub,” he added.
