Govt Directs Flags at Half-Mast for Ministers, Others Killed in Helicopter Crash

The Government of Ghana has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honor of the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; and six others who perished in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash.

The fatal incident occurred on August 6 in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while the two ministers, alongside other officials and military crew, were travelling to Obuasi for official duties.

Announcing the directive, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah conveyed the government’s profound grief over the loss of the distinguished public servants and their companions.

“The President and the government extend condolences to the families of our comrades who died in service to the country. All flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice,” Mr. Debrah said.

The Ghana Armed Forces have confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash, which claimed the lives of eight people, including high-ranking government officials and military personnel.

Further updates are expected as the inquiry progresses.
