Govt Appoints Brig. Gen. Okae-Yeboah to Lead Flood Mitigation Exercise

The Government of Ghana has appointed the Director General of Joint Operations at the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Forster Okae-Yeboah, to lead an uncompromising and robust nationwide flood mitigation exercise following the devastating floods that recently hit parts of Greater Accra.

The appointment comes after the June 29 floods displaced more than 38,800 people and claimed 12 lives, according to the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

The development was announced by the Minister for Government Communications in a Facebook post, where he disclosed that Brig. Gen. Okae-Yeboah has been tasked with spearheading an all-action operation aimed at protecting Ghanaians from further flooding.

"Meet Brigadier General Forster Okae-Yeboah, Director General, Joint Operations, Ghana Armed Forces. He has been tapped to lead an uncompromising, robust, and all-action flood mitigation exercise," the minister wrote.

According to the statement, Brig. Gen. Okae-Yeboah is expected to brief the public at 11:00 a.m. on the operations of the task force and outline measures being implemented to decisively address Ghana's recurring flood challenges.

The announcement follows growing public concern over the impact of the recent floods, which affected thousands of households across several communities in Greater Accra, destroying homes, disrupting businesses and resulting in multiple fatalities.

Government is expected to outline immediate intervention measures as well as long-term strategies to reduce flood risks and safeguard lives and property during the upcoming public briefing.
