The government has officially revoked the appointment of Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo as the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), marking another leadership change within the institution.
Sources confirm that the contracts of his three deputies have also been terminated. The affected deputies include:
- Kwame Adu-Darkwa, Deputy Director-General, Finance and Administration
- Ms. Juliana Kpedekpo, Deputy Director-General, Operations and Benefits
- Nana Serwah Bonsu Amoako, Deputy Director-General, Investment and Development
However, no official replacements have been announced, as the President is yet to appoint a new Director-General and deputies to steer the affairs of the institution.
This development follows a series of leadership reshuffles within SSNIT. In April 2024, then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo dismissed Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang as Director-General and replaced him with Osafo-Maafo.
Osafo-Maafo, the son of prominent political figure and former presidential advisor Yaw Osafo-Maafo, took over leadership at SSNIT in a move that also led to other structural changes. Following Dr. Tenkorang’s removal, his then-Deputy Director-General for Finance and Administration, Michael Addo, resigned with immediate effect.
Additionally, Osafo-Maafo’s appointment resulted in Pearl Nana Ama Darko, the former Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits, being reassigned to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) as Commissioner for Support Services. Her role at SSNIT was then taken over by Juliana Kpedekpo, whose tenure has now also come to an end with this latest decision.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to announce fresh appointments in the coming days to ensure continuity in the leadership of SSNIT.
