Government Imposes Night Curfew in Walewale to Curb Security Threats

The Ministry for the Interior has announced a curfew on Walewale and its surrounding areas in the North East Region in response to escalating security concerns.

The directive follows recommendations from the North East Regional Security Council (NERSEC).

The curfew, enacted through an Executive Instrument, is set to run from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, effective Saturday, February 15, 2025.

The official announcement was made in a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak.

Authorities have urged community leaders, elders, and the youth to remain calm and seek peaceful resolutions to any disputes. The government has emphasised its dedication to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of residents.

Additionally, the Ministry has placed a complete ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within Walewale and its neighbouring areas.

The statement warned that individuals found with such items will be subject to arrest and prosecution.

Reaffirming its commitment to regional peace and security, the government has called for cooperation from all stakeholders to prevent further unrest.

Residents are strongly advised to comply with the curfew and security measures to help restore stability in the area.
