Gordon Asare-Bediako Details OSP Encounter After Bail

Wontumi TV journalist Gordon Asare-Bediako has spoken publicly about his arrest and subsequent interaction with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which took place on April 2, 2025.

In an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Asare-Bediako provided a detailed account of his experience. He explained that he received a call at around 12:30 PM from someone claiming to be an OSP officer, requesting a meeting at his workplace, Wontumi TV. The caller described the meeting as a “mere conversation”.

Despite his prior commitments, Asare-Bediako decided to go to the office, where he was led into a room with five OSP officials and was questioned about remarks he had made two weeks earlier on Movement TV. In those remarks, Asare-Bediako alleged that the Special Prosecutor had requested a private jet from the previous government due to the high-risk nature of his role.

While Asare-Bediako acknowledged making the comments, he maintained that they were based on information he had received. The OSP officials, however, considered his statements an attack on the integrity of the special prosecutor and associated them with corruption-related issues. They insisted on knowing the source of the information, leading to a tense encounter that lasted several hours.

After being unable to provide the source of his information, Asare-Bediako was granted a bail bond of GHS 5 million with two sureties, which was satisfied, and he was released.

The journalist expressed concerns over the nature of the meeting, emphasising that he had requested clarity on whether he could involve legal representation. However, he was assured it would be a straightforward discussion.
