Ghana Premier League 2025/26 Season Opens with Drama, Upsets, and Early Statements

The 2025/26 bet The Pawa Ghana Premier League kicked off over the weekend with thrills, resilience, and early shocks as defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars and giants Asante Kotoko, Karela United, and Nations FC all made winning starts, while Hearts of Oak were left frustrated by newcomers Hohoe United.

The season curtain-raiser on Friday night at the Accra Sports Stadium saw Hearts of Oak dominate but fail to break down newly promoted Hohoe United. The debutants held on for a famous 0–0 draw despite finishing with ten men, frustrating the Phobians in front of their home crowd.

Saturday produced fireworks, beginning with Asante Kotoko’s gritty 1–0 win over Berekum Chelsea. Albert Amoah’s clinical finish proved decisive as the Porcupine Warriors launched their title charge with three precious points away from home.

In Bibiani, reigning champions Gold Stars survived a stern test from Bechem United, edging a nervy 2–1 contest. Kumi Attah was the hero of the day, scoring twice to cancel out Darlvin Yeboah’s opener and handing the champions a winning start to their title defence at Dun’s Park.

Sunday’s clashes carried their own drama. At Nsenkyire Sports Arena, Basake Holy Stars and Eleven Wonders played out a tense goalless stalemate, while Vision FC—reduced to ten men—held FC Samartex to another 0–0 draw in Tema.

In Kpando, Ebenezer Abban’s first-half strike secured a 1–0 victory for Heart of Lions over Dreams FC, delighting the home fans.

Former champions Medeama SC also signalled their intent with a commanding 2–0 away win against league debutants Young Apostles, thanks to goals from Emmanuel Owusu and Paul Yeboah.

At the Aliu Mahama Stadium, Karela United extended their remarkable record over Aduana FC with a 1–0 win. Malik Abubakar scored the only goal to ensure the Fire Boys’ wait for a league victory in Tamale continues.

The biggest drama unfolded at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, where Nations FC staged a rousing comeback to beat Swedru All Blacks 2–1. Kweku Baffoe gave the visitors the lead, but Samuel Tetteh equalised before Emmanuel Annor struck late to complete the turnaround.

As the dust settles on Matchday 1, Gold Stars showed resilience as defending champions, Kotoko demonstrated grit away from home, Medeama sent an early warning, and Nations FC thrilled fans with a comeback win.
