GES Reschedules Reopening Date for Single-Track Senior High Schools

The Ministry of Education has announced a revision to the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) operating under the single-track system, aimed at optimising teaching and learning while addressing specific challenges within the sector.

According to the Deputy Minister of Education, the adjustment exclusively affects single-track SHSs, with double-track students set to continue their academic activities as originally planned.

“This adjustment applies only to single-track SHSs. Double-track students remain unaffected and will continue their academic calendar as scheduled,” she emphasised during a press briefing in Accra.

The decision, she noted, follows extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service (GES), heads of schools, teacher unions, and parent associations. The revision seeks to streamline educational processes and enhance the quality of teaching and learning under the Free SHS policy.

The ministry assured parents, students, and teachers that the changes will not disrupt the academic year but rather ensure better planning and effective delivery of lessons. The GES has been directed to provide detailed guidelines to all affected schools to facilitate a smooth transition.

Parents and guardians have been encouraged to support their wards throughout the adjustment period, while students are advised to remain focused on their studies.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality education for all Ghanaian students, emphasising that the calendar adjustment aligns with the government’s vision to strengthen the Free SHS programme.
