Food Security Has Improved Under Burkina Faso’s Ibrahim Traoré – Prof. Aning

Security analyst and international affairs expert Prof. Kwesi Aning has commended the leadership of Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, for what he described as significant progress in improving food security and public welfare in the country.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV with Bernard Avle, Prof. Aning, who heads the Office for International Cooperation at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), praised specific reforms introduced by the military-led government.

“In Burkina Faso, the gold mines have been nationalised. We’re seeing roads being built. Hectares are being given to farmers. Even more importantly, food security has improved,” he noted.

He emphasised that these developments are transforming the lives of ordinary Burkinabè, particularly in regions that once battled severe malnutrition and child hunger.

“In regions where children were starving and couldn’t concentrate on their education and were being destroyed by ‘kwashiorkor’, now they can live,” Prof. Aning said.

He further questioned the dominant narrative in Western media about Burkina Faso, urging a more balanced and context-aware representation of developments in the country.

“It raises questions about how the narrative is being created by the West and in the West,” he stated.
