The fatal crash occurred on Saturday, December 20, 2025, under circumstances that are still being investigated by the police. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call shortly after the accident and swiftly dispatched a rescue team from the Komenda Fire Station. Firefighters worked meticulously to extricate the bodies of five passengers who were trapped inside the crushed bus.

According to the GNFS, the rescue operation was carried out in collaboration with other emergency agencies to ensure the safe retrieval of the deceased and to manage the scene effectively. After the recovery exercise, firefighters cleared debris and wreckage from the roadway to restore traffic flow and prevent secondary accidents.

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police for preservation and further investigations, while the drivers of both vehicles are expected to assist with enquiries into the cause of the crash.

Although the exact circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear, police have launched a full investigation to establish whether factors such as speeding, wrongful overtaking, mechanical failure, or road conditions played a role.

The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway, a major transport corridor that has recorded several fatal crashes in recent years.

The Ghana National Fire Service reiterated its commitment to rapid emergency response and public safety, urging motorists to observe traffic regulations, avoid dangerous driving practices, and exercise caution, especially during the festive season when traffic volumes are high.

Authorities have appealed to drivers to prioritise safety to help curb the recurring loss of lives on Ghana’s highways.
