Fire Devastates 13-Bedroom House in Oforikrom Gaoline Community

A fierce fire has destroyed a 13-bedroom house in the Oforikrom Gaoline community in the Ashanti Region, leaving residents in disbelief and causing extensive damage to property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

The fire, which broke out around midday on Wednesday, has left several families displaced and struggling to recover their belongings.

According to eyewitnesses, the blaze spread rapidly, but the efforts of local residents helped contain its spread until the arrival of the KNUST fire station. One witness recalled, “We just heard noise that the building was on fire, so the boys in the area came around to control the spread before the fire service came in to bring it under control. Most of the children were in school, and the adults were also out when the fire started.”

The fire has left many victims stranded, with little to no hope of salvaging their belongings. Madam Assana, whose sister’s family was affected, expressed the emotional toll on the victims. “My twin sister is pregnant, and hearing the news of the fire has really affected her. We couldn’t salvage much,” she shared, reflecting the distress faced by the families impacted.

The fire service managed to control the blaze within two hours, preventing it from spreading further. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, with authorities keen to understand how the incident unfolded.

This latest fire incident adds to a growing number of fire outbreaks in the Ashanti Region, which has already recorded 183 cases since the start of 2025. The region’s major markets, including Kejetia, Asafo, and Kwadaso wood market, have been severely impacted by recent fires, raising concerns over safety and fire prevention measures in the region.

As residents begin to cope with the aftermath of this devastating fire, local authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and take preventive measures to avoid further incidents.

The ongoing investigation will hopefully provide clarity on the cause of the fire and help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
