Minister-Designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, has pledged to ensure fairness and transparency in the issuance of fishing vessel licenses under her watch.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 22, Ms. Arthur emphasised that the licensing process would adhere strictly to established procedures, prioritising integrity in the management of the fisheries sector.
“We will be fair and equitable; whoever is deserving of a license following due process will get a license,” she assured.
Acknowledging challenges with existing backlogs, she noted that applicants may need to exercise patience in cases where the system is overwhelmed.
“If the traffic is too choked, then people would have to wait their turn. An orderly system is key to maintaining fairness,” she explained.
