Effutu NDC Supporters Burn Party Property Over Exclusion of Dr. James Kofi Annan from Appointments

Discontented National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Effutu constituency of the Central Region have set office equipment ablaze, protesting the exclusion of their 2024 parliamentary candidate, Dr. James Kofi Annan, from recent government appointments.

The protesters, angered by what they perceive as a broken promise by President John Dramani Mahama, stormed the NDC constituency office in Winneba, forcefully breaking in, removing furniture and equipment, and setting them on fire.

Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved group, Angela Mansah expressed disappointment over Dr. Annan’s omission, describing it as unfair given his contributions to the party.

“James Kofi Annan has sacrificed so much for this party. He has contested twice and worked tirelessly to strengthen the NDC in Effutu. During the campaign, President Mahama promised to appoint him, yet he has been overlooked,” she stated.

The supporters emphasised that Dr. Annan’s dedication and sacrifices warrant recognition and a role in the Mahama administration. They warned that failure to honour this promise could lead to further unrest and division within the party in Effutu.

The protesters called on the NDC leadership and the president to address their concerns and fulfil the campaign promise, stressing the importance of unity and fairness for the party’s growth in the constituency.

The incident has drawn attention to internal party tensions, with observers urging swift resolution to avoid further damage to the NDC’s image in the region.
