Branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effutu have apologised for their involvement in a violent protest at the party’s office on Friday, January 24, 2024.
The group, who staged the protest to demand the appointment of James Kofi Annan as the parliamentary candidate for the constituency, admitted to vandalising party property during the demonstration.
In a statement of apology, the branch executives expressed deep regret for their actions and acknowledged that their conduct was inappropriate and harmful to the party’s image.
“We, the concerned branch executives of the NDC in the Effutu constituency, want to express our deep regret for our actions during our January 24 demonstration. Our behaviour was unacceptable, and we understand that our actions have caused more harm than good to the party’s reputation,” said Angela Mensah, the group’s spokesperson.
The executives admitted that their grievances should have been resolved through peaceful and constructive dialogue rather than through acts of destruction.
“We recognise that our demands could have been addressed through better channels, and we sincerely apologise for any embarrassment caused to the party. Moving forward, we pledge to engage peacefully and respectfully with party leadership,” Mensah added.
