Former Adentan MP Kojo Adu Asare has advised President John Dramani Mahama to turn down a request from the minority in Parliament for a meeting, insisting that Parliament remains the appropriate forum for expressing their concerns.
His remarks come as the minority caucus prepares to formally present a petition at the Jubilee House today, Thursday, July 24, 2025, seeking an audience with the President to discuss what they term “issues of great public concern”.
But Adu Asare, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, argued that the minority should be using the constitutional platform available to them — the floor of Parliament — rather than resorting to alternative avenues, especially after repeatedly boycotting parliamentary proceedings.

“How many times did Akufo-Addo meet with the minority in his eight years? How many times did President Kufuor meet the minority?” he quizzed. “The request should be declined because they are supposed to speak in Parliament, and if they keep boycotting sittings, what are they going to tell the President when they can’t use the forum they have?”
The former legislator accused the caucus of misusing their mandate and being inconsistent in their approach to national dialogue.
“These guys have a mandate given to them by the constitution of Ghana. So who has given them the mandate to seek an audience with the president? Over what?” He asked. “They have already been given a forum for dialogue and debate, but they use that to vilify and throw shade, and now they are seeking whichever forum. Is that Parliament?”
The minority, however, maintains that the matters they wish to raise with President Mahama require “fair-minded leadership and definitive action”, suggesting they go beyond routine parliamentary engagement.
As of press time, the presidency had not officially responded to the caucus’ petition.
