Deputy AG Denies Claims of Lost Evidence in Republic vs Adu-Boahene Trial

Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai has refuted allegations that the Attorney-General’s (AG) office has lost critical evidence in the ongoing criminal trial of the Republic v Adu-Boahene.

In a statement posted on X on Thursday, August 28, Justice Srem Sai stressed that the prosecution’s case remains intact, with all documents properly filed and served.

“The Attorney-General’s office has not lost any evidence regarding the ongoing Republic v Adu-Boahene criminal trial,” he said. “As of June 18, we had filed all the documents which we intend to rely on to prove the charges against the four accused persons in the case.”

According to him, the prosecution has placed before the court a comprehensive set of materials, including:

  • Contracts of sale
  • Bank wire transfer records and account statements
  • Company registration and property ownership documents
  • Purchase receipts
  • INTERPOL stolen vehicle records
  • Investigative caution and charge statements of each accused person
  • Records of asset non-declaration
  • A flowchart of money movements across multiple bank accounts
  • Testimonies from three prosecution witnesses

He emphasised that certified copies of these documents have already been served on the accused persons, making it “unrealistic” for claims of missing evidence to surface.

Providing an update on proceedings, Justice Srem Sai confirmed that the trial had already commenced before the legal vacation.

“Before the start of the legal vacation on July 31, the first of our three prosecution witnesses had completed testifying and had been cross-examined by the lawyers of three of the four accused persons,” he disclosed.

The Deputy AG added that the case would resume in mid-October, once the courts reconvene from vacation.

The Republic v Adu-Boahene case involves four accused persons facing charges connected to financial transactions, asset concealment, and property dealings under investigation by the state. The AG’s office maintains that it is committed to pursuing the matter to its logical conclusion.
