DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor Appointed as New CID Director-General

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor as the new Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The announcement, made on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, is part of a major restructuring within the Ghana Police Service aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.

DCOP Donkor, a seasoned law enforcement officer and legal expert, previously served as the Safety and Security Head of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Her expertise in security management has been instrumental in ensuring high safety standards at both local and international football matches. She also holds a key role in the Confederation of African Football (CAF), overseeing security at major continental tournaments.

Beyond her law enforcement career, DCOP Donkor is the CEO of Police Ladies FC, a top club in the Ghana Women’s Premier League. Under her leadership, the team has grown into a formidable force in women’s football.

Her appointment comes alongside other key changes within the police hierarchy. DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Danquah has been named Director-General for Research and Planning, while Commissioner of Police (COP) Paul Manly Awini now leads the Service Workshop in Accra.

These shifts form part of the newly restructured 31-member Police Management Board, tasked with strengthening law enforcement operations and public security across the country.
