The reassignment of DCOP Abrokwa was prompted by his handling of security during the Ashanti Regional Council of State election, which took place at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) in Kumasi on Tuesday, February 11.
Although the election commenced smoothly, it descended into chaos when a group of heavily built men, allegedly affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Obuasi, disrupted proceedings during the ballot sorting process.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command, under DCOP Abrokwa’s leadership, struggled to contain the situation, leading to security concerns.
In response to the incident, the police administration swiftly issued DCOP Abrokwa’s transfer letter, relieving him of his role in the region.
DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, who previously served as the Central North Regional Police Commander, now takes over the critical responsibility of maintaining law and order in the Ashanti Region. His experience and leadership will be vital in ensuring security and stability, particularly in the wake of recent disturbances.
Welcoming the new commander, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene expressed confidence in DCOP Cudjoe’s ability to foster a secure environment. He emphasised the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and regional authorities to uphold peace and order.
DCOP Cudjoe’s appointment comes at a crucial time when security management in the region is under scrutiny. His leadership is expected to restore confidence in the police force and strengthen efforts to maintain stability in the Ashanti Region.
