The Human Rights Court has scheduled a ruling for June 18 on a motion filed by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta seeking to stop the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from publicly declaring him a “wanted person” and “fugitive from justice”.
In his motion, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP’s labelling violates his constitutional and internationally protected rights to personal liberty and freedom of movement. He is also requesting a court order compelling the OSP to remove previous declarations from its social media accounts and official website, which he claims continue to damage his reputation despite assurances that his name was temporarily taken off the wanted list.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office, led by Kissi Agyebeng, opposes the motion, maintaining that their actions were lawful and justified due to Ofori-Atta’s failure to appear for questioning in corruption investigations.

The dispute began in February 2025, when the OSP declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive after he left Ghana for medical treatment without providing a clear return date. Following negotiations, his name was temporarily removed from the list after he committed to appearing before the OSP on June 2, 2025.
The court’s upcoming decision will determine whether the OSP can continue publicly branding Ofori-Atta as a fugitive while the investigations proceed.
