CLOGSAG Declares Nationwide Strike Over Registrar Appointment

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared a nationwide strike in protest against the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

The decision was reached following a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) on February 11, 2025, where concerns were raised regarding the appointment of politically exposed persons into the civil service and local government structures. CLOGSAG has long maintained that such appointments compromise the neutrality and professionalism of the civil service.

In a resolution passed at the meeting, the National Executive Committee stated that if Mr. Botchway assumed office, the association would have no option but to embark on industrial action. Following his official assumption of duty on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, CLOGSAG confirmed that it would proceed with a nationwide strike, effective Thursday, February 20, 2025.
