CID boss sues bank over late husband’s accounts

Commissioner of Police (COP) Faustina Andoh-Kwofie, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has filed a lawsuit against the National Investment Bank (NIB) over alleged discrepancies in her late husband’s bank accounts.

The legal action, lodged at the High Court in Accra on January 22, 2025, accuses NIB officials of manipulating account balances linked to her late husband, COP Stephen Andoh-Kwofie, who passed away over nine years ago.

As the administrator of his estate, Faustina Andoh-Kwofie claims her late husband had informed her of substantial deposits in accounts associated with him and his company, ANEBONA. Upon requesting specific account statements for 5012002254901-USD-ANEBONA and 5012002254902-GBP-ANEBONA, she allegedly discovered significant discrepancies, with the balances being much lower than expected.

Despite repeated requests for a detailed transaction breakdown, she asserts that NIB has failed to comply with her enquiries.

Faustina Andoh-Kwofie is now seeking a court order compelling NIB to provide complete and accurate account statements from December 1, 2014, to the present day, along with general damages and legal costs for the alleged irregularities.

The National Investment Bank has acknowledged receipt of the lawsuit and stated that its legal team is reviewing the matter. Mary Owusu-Brefo, the head of customer service at NIB, confirmed that the bank’s legal department is preparing to respond as required by law.

COP Stephen Andoh-Kwofie served as a Commissioner of Police until his death in 2015. He joined the Ghana Police Service in 1991 as a Deputy Superintendent of Police and climbed through the ranks to serve in various positions both nationally and internationally. His sudden passing has now led to this ongoing legal battle regarding the management of his estate.
