Chowdeck Hires Bolt Ghana’s Henry Whyte to Lead Accra Expansion

Nigerian food delivery startup Chowdeck has recruited Henry Whyte, former Senior Operations Manager at Bolt Ghana, to spearhead its operations in Ghana — a major move in the company’s push for international growth.

Whyte’s appointment comes nearly a year after Umar Nas’ir, another former senior Bolt executive, was hired to lead Chowdeck’s Nigerian operations. The startup, which is backed by Y Combinator, appears to be strategically pulling in experienced talent from rivals as it scales.

A Bolt spokesperson confirmed Whyte’s departure but declined to provide further details. Chowdeck has yet to comment publicly on the hire.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Whyte joined Bolt in 2018 as a customer support specialist and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming operations manager in 2020 and then senior operations manager in November 2021. His deep operational knowledge of Ghana’s urban mobility and delivery ecosystem positions him well to help Chowdeck take on established players like Bolt Food in Accra.

The move highlights Chowdeck’s growing ambitions beyond food delivery. Like Bolt, the startup is also building an asset-light last-mile logistics model in Ghana and Nigeria — a sector where Whyte and Nas’ir’s combined 13 years of experience could be critical.

Chowdeck has made similar moves in the past. In 2023, it brought on Michael Toyinbo, former head of planning and performance at Jumia Nigeria, to lead its expansion team.

With talent from Bolt and Jumia now steering its growth, Chowdeck looks set to intensify competition in Ghana’s rapidly evolving food and logistics delivery space.
