Benita Sena Okity-Duah Appointed Coordinator for Free SHS Secretariat

Former Ledzokuku Member of Parliament (MP) Benita Sena Okity-Duah has been appointed as the new Coordinator for the Free Senior High School (SHS) Secretariat.

Okity-Duah, who first gained national prominence as the 1997 Miss Ghana winner, brings a diverse background in leadership, fashion, and governance to her new role.

Born on June 19, 1976, in Anloga in the Volta Region, she attended Achimota School before pursuing fashion studies at the London School of Fashion. Upon returning to Ghana in 2003, she made a name for herself in the fashion industry before transitioning into politics.

Her political career took off when she won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries against incumbent MP Nii Nortey Dua and subsequently secured the Ledzokuku parliamentary seat in the 2012 elections.

During her time in office, Okity-Duah served as Deputy Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection from April 2013 to June 2014.

Her appointment to the Free SHS Secretariat places her at the centre of one of Ghana’s most significant education policies, where she is expected to oversee implementation, coordination, and policy improvements.
