Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Ghanaians to uphold peace, unity, and economic progress as the nation marks its 68th Independence Day today, March 6.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia reflected on the significance of the occasion, urging citizens to work together to build a stronger and more prosperous Ghana.
“I wish all Ghanaians a happy 68th Independence Day. It is my prayer that as citizens of Ghana, we shall continue to live in peace, unified for political and economic growth, and solidify our common heritage,” he wrote.

Reiterating this year’s theme, “Reflect, Review, Reset,” he stressed the importance of national solidarity and collective efforts in driving economic transformation.
“We are one people, one nation with a common destiny. May our future be filled with happiness, cohesion, and positive transformation,” he added.
This year’s Independence Day celebrations were scaled down due to economic constraints, with the main event held at the Jubilee House instead of the traditional Black Star Square.
The ceremony featured a military guard of honour, cultural displays by schoolchildren, and a poetry recital by a senior high school student.
Ghana’s Independence Day remains a powerful symbol of the country’s liberation from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957. Dr. Bawumia’s message serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility to foster peace, unity, and economic prosperity for future generations.
