AUDIO: Becoming a Technical Advisor to Interior Minister An Upliftment than Research and Planning at Ghana Police Service – Retired ACP on Maame Tiwaa’s Appointment
Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Jango Nuhu has commended the decision to reassign Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah to the Interior Ministry as a technical advisor to the ministry, stating that the role is more suitable for her expertise than the director-general of research and planning at the Ghana Police Service.
His comment follows a swift reassignment that occurred just hours after newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu named COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa as the Director-General of Research and Planning at the Ghana Police Service.
However, in a subsequent letter from the presidency, she was instead appointed to the interior ministry to support the minister in a technical advisory capacity.

According to the letter, signed by the secretary to the president, Callistus Mahama, the reassignment recognises her dedication and contributions to national security.
”’His Excellency the President recognises and deeply appreciates your unwavering dedication, professionalism and invaluable contributions to the nation. It is his firm belief that your expertise and commitment will continue to serve the country effectively in your new capacity,” portions of the letter read.
COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah’s initial appointment as Director-General of Research and Planning was part of a broader restructuring within the Ghana Police Service, as announced in a statement by the Public Affairs Directorate on March 19, 2025.
Before this reassignment, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa had recently returned to the police service after serving as the executive director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). She has also previously held the position of the director-general of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), making her one of the most experienced senior officers in law enforcement.
Speaking in a phone interview on Hot FM Morning Drive, ACP Jango Nuhu asserted that serving as a technical advisor to the interior minister is a promotion compared to being assigned to the research and planning.
”How can someone who has worked with international organisations and served as EOCO boss be given a position in research and planning? That belittles her experience and expertise,’ he argued.
He further emphasised that as a technical advisor, COP Maame Yaa will have supervisory oversight over all security services in the country. Her advice to the minister will be instrumental in shaping security policies due to her extensive experience in combating organised crime and coordinating with international law enforcement agencies.
ACP Jango Nuhu described the reassignment as a significant elevation, highlighting that his role will directly impact the national security strategies.
He also stressed that research and planning positions are typically assigned to younger, vibrant officers within the service rather than seasoned professionals with high-level investigative experience.
”This role is an upliftment; it allows her to contribute meaningfully to security policy. Research and Planning should be given to new, energetic officers, not someone who has dealt with complex crime issues both locally and internationally,” he concluded.
