AUDIO: Bawumia Is NPP’s Best Bet for 2028 – Alexander Akwasi Acquah Declares

The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda and former Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has declared his unwavering support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 presidential election, describing him as the party’s most viable candidate.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Puretvonline, the MP emphasised the importance of consistency in political strategy, citing historical examples within the NPP where perseverance eventually paid off.

“In 1996, I was a press attaché for the late Prof. Albert Adu Boahene, and I expected the party to maintain him after the 1992 defeat. But he was replaced by John Agyekum Kufuor, who also lost in 1996. It took another shot in 2000 for Kufuor to win,” Hon. Acquah recalled.

He further noted that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo faced similar challenges, contesting unsuccessfully in 2008 and 2012 before finally winning the 2016 election on his third attempt.

Drawing a parallel with the Vice President, Hon. Acquah argued that Dr. Bawumia should be maintained beyond 2024 to stand a better chance in 2028. He believes that abandoning Bawumia after one attempt would repeat a costly pattern of inconsistency.

“Bawumia has done incredibly well, especially considering the international crises and economic challenges Ghana has faced. Securing 36% in the last general election under such tough conditions is no small feat,” he said.

While acknowledging that there are other capable candidates within the party, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah insisted that Dr Bawumia remains the strongest and most credible option going forward.

“Unless someone convinces me otherwise, I believe Bawumia is still the best person to win power for the NPP. We must learn from our history—consistency matters.”
