The Ashanti Region has recorded a notable decline in fire outbreaks in the first quarter of 2025, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Data from the service shows that the region experienced 586 fire incidents between January and March 2025, compared to 656 cases during the same period in 2024—reflecting a 10.5% reduction.
Speaking to OTEC News on Wednesday, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer, Divisional Officer Grade II (DOII) Peter Addai, attributed the decline to intensified fire safety education campaigns and increased public cooperation.

“The public has been very supportive, and our education efforts have been paying off,” DOII Addai said.
He highlighted the role of community outreach programs, school sensitisation, and targeted awareness campaigns in markets and residential areas as key strategies that have helped reduce fire risks.
DOII Addai assured residents that the Service would continue to intensify education and fire prevention activities across the region. He urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly as the dry season approaches, and to observe basic safety measures at home, in workplaces, and in public spaces.
“We cannot be complacent. Prevention is still the best approach. Everyone must do their part,” he added.
The GNFS has reiterated its call on the public to report hazards early, avoid overloading electrical sockets, store flammable materials properly, and ensure regular maintenance of electrical systems.
