A notorious armed robbery gang terrorising residents in parts of the Ashanti Region has been dismantled following a high-risk police operation that left one suspect dead and several others in custody.
The joint raid, carried out by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) District Police, the Regional Operations Unit, and the Police Intelligence Department (PID), took place on Friday, June 27, around 11:30 a.m., leading to the arrest of multiple suspects from their hideouts.
Key suspects arrested include:

During the operation, a shoot-out ensued between police and the suspects. One of the robbers sustained gunshot wounds and later died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). Another suspect, Yahaya Nuhu, is currently on the run and being actively pursued by police.
Shockingly, during interrogation, Kwadwo Kyei Baffour admitted not only to participating in multiple robberies but also confessed to raping a female victim during one of the home invasions.
According to Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, the gang had been behind a string of violent robberies in Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Dechembuoso, Appiadu, and surrounding communities.
“They were heavily armed with pump-action guns, pistols, and other weapons. Victims were held hostage in their homes while the criminals looted large sums of money, electronic gadgets, and personal belongings,” DCOP Cudjoe said during a press briefing on Monday.
Items retrieved during the operation include:
- Multiple laptops, mobile phones, tablets, and wristwatches
- Television sets, WiFi routers
- Three vehicles: a Kia Morning and two Toyota Corollas (GX 4388-19, AS 4777-22)
- Taurus pistol (ACC721513) with 4 rounds of 9mm ammo
- NP Cal 9x19mm pistol (No. 11501418)
- Jojeff pump-action shotgun (No. 8782) with 33 rounds of ammo
Bernard Owusu Ansah, alias Hot Boy, is currently receiving medical treatment at KATH under armed police guard.
DCOP Cudjoe praised the public for its support and vigilance and reassured residents of the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the Ashanti Region.
All arrested suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be arraigned before court to face multiple charges, including armed robbery, rape, and unlawful possession of firearms.
