The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled the Chief of Ohwim, Nana Kusi Baaye II, over multiple allegations, including extortion, illegal land sales, and involvement in illegal mining.
At a sitting of the Kumasi Traditional Council, the Asantehene ruled that Nana Kusi Baaye II had desecrated the Golden Stool by falsely invoking the Great Oath (Ntamkese), a sacred pledge that demands absolute truthfulness.
“You vowed with the Great Oath to be truthful, but you went against it. You don’t deserve to stay on the stool. Many have sacrificed to protect the Golden Stool; I won’t allow you to destroy it,” Otumfuo declared.

The 16-year reign of Nana Kusi Baaye II came under intense scrutiny as family members and other witnesses testified against him. His own sister accused him of falsely claiming Asantehene had taken over family lands for a solar project when, in reality, he had allocated them for illegal mining.
Other allegations included selling cemetery lands, obstructing the enstoolment of a queen, and refusing to perform traditional rites under the pretext of being a Christian.
Following the revelations, the divisions of the Kumasi Traditional Council unanimously demanded his removal, a decision the Asantehene upheld, marking the end of Nana Kusi Baaye II’s rule over Ohwim.
