Archbishop Duncan-Williams Urges Men Over 40 to Prioritise Prostate Health

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of the United Denominations of Action Chapel International, has issued an impassioned plea to men aged 40 and above to prioritise their prostate health.

Sharing his own battle with prostate cancer during the church’s 31st all-night service on December 31, 2024, the archbishop highlighted the importance of early detection and proactive health care.

The service, held at Action Chapel in Accra, marked the congregation’s crossover into the New Year, blending spiritual reflection with practical advice on health and well-being.

In his sermon, Archbishop Duncan-Williams candidly shared how early medical intervention saved his life. “If I didn’t do the check I did at the time I did it, I wouldn’t be standing on my feet; I wouldn’t be here,” he revealed.

The cleric encouraged men to take regular prostate screenings seriously, stressing that early diagnosis is crucial in combating prostate cancer. He recommended checks every three to six months for men over 40, saying, “Prostate is one of the things that is killing Black men.”

His testimony resonated deeply with congregants as he highlighted the often-hidden risks of prostate cancer and the transformative impact of timely medical care.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams did not stop at raising awareness. He assured his congregation of access to credible medical resources, offering to recommend trusted facilities for prostate health services.

“I know some places that I can recommend to you too, and they can help you and save your life. They saved my life; there are people standing here. I recommended them, and they saved their lives,” he said, underscoring the value of seeking professional guidance.

The archbishop’s message extended beyond spiritual renewal, reflecting a growing emphasis on the holistic well-being of his congregation. By linking health care to faith, he encouraged men to take charge of their physical health as part of their spiritual journey.

He also alluded to the spiritual dimensions of health challenges, describing his experience as part of a broader battle. “The enemy has an agenda, and it was hiding,” he said, urging men to confront their health issues with vigilance and faith.
