Anlo Dukor Traditional Council Petitions Speaker Over ‘Daughter of a Murderer’ Comment

The Anlo Dukor Traditional Council in the Volta Region has formally petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, demanding the identification of the MP who allegedly verbally assaulted Klottey-Korle MP, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings.

The council has given a five-day deadline for the Speaker to investigate and reveal the lawmaker responsible for the outburst, stating that the identification is necessary to determine their next course of action.

The incident occurred on February 4 during a heated parliamentary session, where a male voice was heard shouting:

“Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”

This interruption happened while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House, urging calm amid tense debates about the 60th anniversary of the death of J.B. Danquah.

Following the incident, allegations surfaced that the voice belonged to Damongo MP, Samuel Abu Jinapor. However, Jinapor has strongly denied the claims, stating that such language is not in his character.

The Anlo Dukor Traditional Council has condemned the attack, calling it disrespectful and unacceptable. They are now awaiting Parliament’s response before taking further action.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions, with calls for civility and decorum in parliamentary debates. It remains to be seen how Speaker Alban Bagbin will handle the petition and whether the alleged MP will be identified.
