The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has dismissed reports of a raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, suggesting that the incident may have been staged to create the illusion of political persecution.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, Agyebeng refuted claims that operatives from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) were involved in the reported invasion.
He argued that if such an operation had been conducted by his office, there would be no uncertainty about it.

“When the OSP enters your premises, you will not be in doubt. Our personnel have distinct insignia and follow a structured process,” he stated.
Multiple media reports on Tuesday claimed that armed individuals—including some in police and military uniforms—stormed Mr. Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence while he was reportedly out of the country seeking medical treatment.
However, the special prosecutor suggested that the incident was either staged or carried out by impostors attempting to misrepresent the actions of his office.
“This appears to be a calculated effort to distort the facts and disrupt our ongoing investigations,” he asserted.
Agyebeng also cast doubt on the legitimacy of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s medical leave, stating that the documents submitted by his lawyers did not prove he was incapacitated or unable to return to Ghana to assist in investigations.
“The first letter from his lawyers, dated 31 January 2025, explicitly stated that he had left the jurisdiction indefinitely. This, in our view, reflects his true intent,” Agyebeng said.
The special prosecutor issued a firm ultimatum, making it clear that Mr. Ofori-Atta must either return to Ghana voluntarily or face legal measures to compel his return.
“Should he fail to return, the OSP will take all necessary legal steps to ensure his appearance before us,” he warned.
With the allegations of corruption still looming, the controversy over the alleged raid adds another layer of drama to an already high-profile case.
